10/13 Slate Notes

10/13 Slate Breakdown

Arizona vs. Pittsburgh:

  • I will be playing Pitt and their ALT team totals in parlays tonight.
  • Their pregame lines of -420 and team total of 4 are too high.
  • They usually play slow first periods with limited scoring so the best plan of attack without alt lines would be to hit the Penguins
  • The Penguins are at least three lines deep while Arizona has no true star and have a last place team and lineup.
  • Arizona under 2.5 is a play if you like betting unders

New Jersey vs. Philadelphia:

  • The home team has won 7 of the last 8
  • New Jersey is trending up with their recent drafts and offseason signing of Ondrej Palat.
  • Jack Hughes’ brother Luke Hughes is in the system and waiting to come up but the last I’ve seen him play he did not look great.
  • Carter Hart is the best goalie on the ice and the Flyers have the names to play but can’t put it together.
  • John Tortorella is now coaching the Flyers which should bring more discipline and structure but he comes with controversy.
  • I like the Flyers 2.5 total tonight and am not ready to take the Devils here on the road as favorites.

Ottawa vs. Buffalo:

  • The Senators are my undervalued team in the East the way the Kraken are in the West.
  • Claude Giroux and Alex Debrincat are two huge additions for the Sens in the offseason.
  • While Giroux may not be a top goal scorer this year, his ability to provide secondary scoring to Debrincat should make Debrincat a 40+ goal scorer again.
  • Buffalo has been much better off without Jack Eichel distracting them and they have good young top picks in their lineup with Owen Power and Rasmus Dahlin on the blue line.
  • Craig Anderson starts for Buffalo tonight against his former team for only the second time and it shouldn’t go well for him. Anderson is old and has been in the league for 20 years now.
  • Anton Forsberg gets the start for Ottawa and should allow Buffalo to score.
  • 6.5 is in play if you don’t have alts. 6 and 5.5 definitely for sure in this game. I expect both offenses to fire at will and it may take the first 10-15 minutes for each team to find their legs.

Florida vs Islanders:

  • I’m surprised the books have the Islanders projected to make the playoffs this year but I believe they’re right.
  • While the Isles didn’t make any offseason moves, they have the same team that took them to two ECF appearances in the past three years.
  • Lane Lambert is the new coach for the Isles and I believe will get more offensiveness out of the Isles top nine forwards.
  • I am very down on Florida this year. The trade of Huberdeau and Weegar for Tkachuk should prove to be a bad decision. Tkachuk is not a leader or superstar the way Huberdeau is and the Panthers have significantly less depth now than they did last year.
  • Ilya Sorokin is a top 5 goalie in the league and Sergei Bobrovsky is top 10. The Islanders lack of scoring in the past would give Bobrovsky the edge here but I expect more out of the Islanders this year.
  • I don’t feel a need to play either side tonight but I do like the Islanders team total of 2.5. I would lean the Islanders to win.

Washington vs Toronto:

  • Complete smash spot for the Leafs tonight. This is a perfect rebound spot for Toronto which should see Washington be without Darcy Keumper on the back to back.
  • Washington is banged up and missing three top skaters.
  • Toronto ML and team total 3.5 are in play.

Rangers vs Wild:

  • Not worth betting in my opinion. Two evenly matched teams with top goaltenders. Not worth the risk.

Dallas vs Nashville:

  • Pete Debour is a terrible coach and leads the Dallas Stars.
  • Nashville is my darkhorse in the West to win the division over the Avs and make a deep run.
  • Nashville has started hot with their two wins in Prague and I expect them to start 3-0 tonight.
  • I’m surprised their team total at 2.5 is juiced to -186 as they don’t usually score high scoring games against Dallas. Jake Oettinger is also a decent starter in the league now.
  • I will be using Nashville to build some long shot parlays and their ML is a play for small.

Colorado vs. Calgary:

  • Colorado is on a b2b tonight with Pavel Francouz most likely getting the start.
  • I am very down on Colorado this year and love the spot for Calgary tonight.
  • I will be playing Calgary’s team total on the 3 and parlaying the 2.5 with others.
  • I love Calgary this year with the addition of Weegar, Huberdeau, and Kadri and they are legitimate contenders and possibly even better without Gaudreau and Tkachuk.
  • I am a bit surprised Calgary is favored
