12/5 Game Notes

Kings vs. Columbus

The Kings have been one of the better teams in the league this year. Phoenix Copley gets the start for the Kings on the road so I am not looking into laying -200 to play them on the money line.

Rangers vs. Ottawa

We cashed a 5u team total play on Sunday, as well as having them +900 in our parlay. Heading on the road to Canada to play an Ottawa team they play very streaky over the years is enough for me to stay away. Should the Rangers win, yes, but is it worth it, not in my opinion.

Detroit vs. Buffalo

This is where I am targeting tonight. Detroit’s offense has picked it back up lately scoring four or more in seven on nine. Buffalo is averaging a little less than three goals per game but face Alex Lyon tonight. Alex Tuch is out and Buffalo has lost four of its last five. I love the over in this game with both Lyon and Comrie in net. I feel this could be a trap game for Detroit being they lost their last four against the Sabres, but they should be able to contribute their half. The numbers and lineups tell us Detroit should run away with this game but I’m hesitate to pile on them to win. Their team total comes in at three -155 so I see that play being a push at worst. Buffalo’s team total of 2.5 at -185 is too pricey for me to risk. For Buffalo to cash that, that should put us at a 3-3 game minimum and why I like the game over instead. This game is a potential ladder as well and I’d like to have a little action on 7-9.

San Jose vs. Islanders

Saying this sounds crazy, but the San Jose Sharks have been playing much better hockey. The Sharks have gone from averaging one goal per game to nearly two, and while that is laughable in general, the Sharks have averaged over three goals per game over their last five and have put up give and six against the two other metropolitan area teams they’ve played. The Sharks will close out their metro area road trip against the Islanders. We all know how we feel about the Islanders this year so if you want to continue the trend of playing team totals against the Sharks, then go for it. I am not asking the Isles to score four goals tonight at -140 in order to secure a win.

Nashville vs. Chicago

Predators fans know what this rivalry means. The Hawks had the better part of the Preds through their cup winning years during the Kane/Toews era. The script has flipped and the Preds have become the dominant team in this rivalry. With Arvid Soderblom in net, if you want on the Predators side, you’re going to have to pay for it. This should be another win for the Preds but playing the team total of three (-190)  over the ML (-180) may be the safer play. This game could be a runaway for the Preds, but at worst end in a 3-2 / 3-1 / 4-2 type fashion. I expect more scoring than that.

Minnesota vs. Calgary

What I’d like to see in this game is a wide open high scoring game but I don’t trust either team this year. Both teams come in under the .500 mark, and bubbling the three goals per game average. The last two games played between these two have ended in shutouts with each team getting one of them. You’re playing with fire here so I don’t find the risk worth the frustration if we’re wrong.

Colorado vs. Anaheim

The Avs blew a 3-1 lead against the Ducks three days ago. They head home and get a rematch against the same Ducks team but have been dealing with their own slew of injuries. You will need to lay -175 to get their team total of 3.5 and in a game that will see them without Cale Makar, Val Nichushkin, Sam Girard, Gabe Landeskog, and Artturi Lehkonen. My plan tonight is to lay into one game and use any of my leans in this article towards and of your own personal plays.
