12/9 Game Notes

Arizona vs. Boston

Before Boston’s loss to Arizona last year, the Bruins had won 19 in a row against the Coyotes. The Coyotes are not the same team as they’ve been over the past few years. They Yotes currently sit a game over .500 and currently sit in a wild card position in the West. The Yotes are  a team scoring more than they’re giving up, but they are not a team that is ready to be on Boston’s level. This game is tough for me. As of Friday, both teams are averaging exactly 3.24 goals per game. Defensively, Arizona is giving up .4 more goals per game than Boston. As I told you they would, Boston has come back down to earth. Boston has played .500 hockey since the week their schedule toughened up going 8-7 over their past 15. Even if this game goes over and there is some scoring, I see it being a 4-3 type game. If you want to get schwifty and play here, this is a game you can even try and middle with Boston’s ML and Arizona +1.5.

New Jersey vs. Calgary

The Flames have turned their play around since the first two weeks of the season. The Flames are 9-7 in their last 16 since starting the season 2-8. Watching them come back from a 2-0 deficit going into the third period crushing out Canes team total of three on Thursday. That was also after the Hurricanes scored two goals 8:49 into the game and were shutout for the final 51:11. They shouldn’t have that same luck against the Devils. Dougie Hamilton is out which always hurts, but the Devils shouldn’t go flat the way Carolina did. The Devils offense is top 4 in the league, but their defense has been shaky. I don’t necessarily want the Devils ML, but I do think they win. Using them in parlays are an option, but my target here is the team total of three. Taking the Devils ML in parlays can be hedged by playing the game over. I don’t see where the Devils lose in a low scoring game.

Vegas vs. Dallas

I am still a believer in both of these teams and could see this as a potential WCF matchup. My approach is simple here and it’s the Dallas side. They have lost three in a row and six of the last eight. This game should be tight and I like Dallas on the ML small, and the +1.5 depending on the line. I don’t want to worry about any total in this game and focus only on Dallas keeping it close.

Montreal vs. Buffalo

Flat out, I want no part of this matchup. If you have any specific questions please tag me in main chat and ask.

Ottawa vs. Detroit

The last time these two played was in Stockholm causing me to lay off not knowing how the travel would affect them. The game ended 5-4. On October 21st we cashed three units on this game. I am going right back to the well with how Detroit is playing, and how these two teams are playing each other. Alex Lyon is in net for Detroit again and he’s someone I love targeting for the over.

Nashville vs. Toronto

I do not like playing this matchup. These two usually tend to play lower scoring tight games. We’re looking at an out of conference matchup, US travel to Canada, and teams that play each other twice a year. Nashville is another team I like on the +1.5 but that will be the extent of my interest in this game.

Rangers vs. Capitals

Being that I am writing this article on Friday, I can’t see what lines are yet for tomorrow. I will be attacking the Rangers the same way I attacked the Stars on Thursday against the Cap. If we can get the team total at three we will be max betting it. At 3.5 we will look for a 2u play. The Rangers are a powerhouse team this year. My surprise hasn’t been their lack of success, but the struggles of the Hurricanes and Devils. In my preseason breakdown of the Rangers I expressed how I did not like them to win the cup this year, but loved them to succeed. We will continue to ride the wagon.

Kings vs. Islanders

How I play this game will depend on what the lines open up at. The Kings ML is what I want to be on. I don’t expect this game to be a -200 line and being that the Isles are sitting in a playoff spot right now could drive the line down in our favor. The Isles have picked up the scoring as of late but the Kings are the top goals against team in the league. The Kings should come in as a -140 favorite but I am curious to see if this total opens at 5.5 or 6. If we can get 5.5 cheap, I may jump on that as well. Semyon Varlamov started for the Isles against the Jackets on Thursday so this should be a guaranteed start for Sorokin. If there is one game on this slate that I could flip on, it would be this one, so don’t make a play on it until I make it official.

St. Louis vs. Chicago

St. Louis will be on a back to back and  with Hofer starting tonight Binnington will be in net tomorrow. I expect there to be a lot of scoring in the game tonight, but some momentum into tomorrow. I want the over in tonight’s game, and St. Louis total tomorrow. I am looking ahead here a bit and do need to see how tonight’s outcome goes, but St. Louis should dominate tomorrow against the Hawks especially with Binnington in net. The Blues should head into tomorrow fully healthy unless something happens tonight.

Rest of the game breakdowns to come…
