1/5 Game Notes

Arizona vs. Philadelphia

  • These two met less than a month ago in Arizona. Arizona won 5-4.
  • The over 5.5 here is a doable play but it’s not a play i prefer with a slate like today’s.
  • Carter Hart is in net tonight where he has worse numbers at home than on the road.
  • Outside of the 5.5, I would consider using the Flyers team total of 2 in a parlay if im looking to juice up the odds for + money, like a +3 or 400.

Rangers vs Montreal

  • These two don’t normally play high scoring games but I like tonights matchup. The Rangers are going with Jaroslav Halak in net with Montreal Starting Jake Allen.
  • The Rangers have been playing well since December and are one of the hotter teams in the league. While I don’t usually like playing overs between these two teams, having Halak in net for the Rangers should give a better edge to Montreal’s offense.
  • The game over of 5.5 is in play tonight as well as the rangers alt TT over 2. Since I will only be playing the game over for a unit, it’s a play I am expecting to win but am not sold on enough to put in my alt line plays. This game can easily finish 3-0 or 2-1 so I don’t want the Rangers totals tied to all my plays.

Predators vs Carolina

  • This game should be a game that sees a lot of scoring. What worries me is Nashville’s ability to just be a no show offensively. Carolina is a great solid all around team and 4th in the league in terms of goals against.
  • Tonight should see a very back and forth fast paced high scoring game flow so I will be using the over pre game and in my alt line parlays. Carolina’s offense should lead the way tonight so I do expect Carolina to win but this game could reach 5-4 potential.
  • Carolina has won 15 of their last 17 and were on an 11 game win streak before dropping last game to the Rangers. I don’t expect a carryover effect here as the offense did score three goals in the loss.
  • This is one of my favorite games on the board in terms of scoring but it could also come with the most variance and be a dud. I’m planning on the back and forth fast pace.

Seattle vs Toronto

  • Oh boy, what a doozy we’re in for tonight. THis game projects like the Preds/Canes game only I expect this game to be more one sided.
  • Toronto has been one of the hottest teams in the league as well and have really turned it around. WIth the way Seattle has played recently I expect this game to fly in terms of goals.
  • Seattle going on the road to an offensive juggernaut like Toronto could be a momentum and confidence breaker for them. Before beating the Oilers and Islanders, Seattle had lost 8 of 11 games. I expect them to put up multiple goals tonight but I don’t expect them to keep pace defensively. Toronto is shockingly a top 5 defensive team in the league right now so I see this game being a 5-2 / 6-3 type Leafs win.
  • I expect both style of play to leak through the others style, meaning Seattle will come in playing a tighter game trying to hold Toronto at bay while Toronto’s wide open play will allow Seattle to sneak through and score a few goals on some end to end rushes / 2 on 1’s / and a power play goal. Toronto will just be a high flying fast paced team looking to crash and get goals on net as often as possible. Toronto should dominate the time of possession and offensive zone time.

St. Louis vs New Jersey

  • With Tarasenko and O’Reilly out, and the Devils playing last night, I’m personally staying away. St. Louis offensive breakout against the Leafs should not continue again tonight.
  • Vitek started for the Devils last night MacKenzie Blackwood should get the start tonight. I see this game being either a 3-1 type win for the Devils or a 4-3 type win for the Blues. There are too many variables here with injuries, goaltending, and back to back play to make me confident enough to play this game with the other games on the board. If you WANT to play the game, I’d include the Devils ML.

Washington vs Columbus

  • This game could and should get very ugly for Columbus. With Ovi on the tear he is and the Caps playing as well as I expected them to this season now, I want every part of Washington’s offense tonight.
  • The only team in the league that is defensively worse than Columbus is Anaheim. Merzlikins is in net for Columbus tonight and he’s really struggled this season going 4-8 with a GAA of 4.68. In the only two starts of his career against the Caps he’s given up 3 and 4 goals.
  • I am going to also use Washington’s ML. This line tonight should be in the -300’s and were getting a road discount at -195. Nic Dowd and Jon Carlson are out for the Caps possibly driving the line down but I still don’t see a path to victory for Columbus if Darcy Keumper is in net.
