USFL Week 6
PIT @ MEM (USA) Saturday (5/20 12:30pm)
Pittsburgh is playing much better ball after they just trounced the Michigan Panthers in Week 5. Troy Williams is proving to be one of the funner players to watch this season with his dual threat abilities. This week they will take on the Memphis Showboats whose defense just shut down the best offense in the USFL. However, this matchup is a little bit different for the Showboats. Troy Williams brings versatility to the QB position and may not be the best passer in the league like MBT (NO), he can escape and create opportunities with his legs. Unfortunately I don’t think this will be too high of a scoring game but I do like the plus money from the Showboats side. As impressive as Pittsburgh is playing behind Troy Williams, the Showboats have played well this season for the most part with quite a few bad breaks. If you want to sprinkle in the over, I’m fine with it. I can see a path of it getting there, I’m just not overly confident in it.
BIRM @ MICH (FOX) Saturday (5/20 4:00pm)
Birmingham will bounce back this week. After taking it on the chin against the Houston Gamblers, the Stallions should have no issues handling this Michigan Panthers offense. As I’ve stated before, laying 6 is tough in these spring leagues but I’m going to do that here. I’ll also find ways to get the Stallions moneyline in some parlays. With Carston Strong going on the IR and the Panthers resorting back to Josh Love, I don’t think the Stallions will have an issue preventing many sustaining drives.
NO @ PHI (FS1) Sunday (5/21 12:00pm)
I’m going back to the well with the New Orleans Breakers. The Stars are playing a bit better on offense but are still leaving plays on the field. I think the Breakers open this one up against a terrible Stars defense, bouncing back in a big way. The Stars should keep pace enough for this one to get exciting. The over here will be my biggest play.
NJ @ HOU (FOX) Sunday (5/21 4:00pm)
The Generals and Gamblers is another game I think will hit the over. The Gamblers defense is playing better but still nothing insane. The Generals offense should be able to put up enough points with them looking to get back to what made them so successful in 2022, which was a dual QB system. They expected Johnson to take a step as a passer and it has stalled this offense along with losing 2022 MVP, KaVontae Turpin. Since he hasn’t done that but still offers elite rushing upside as a QB, the Generals started to mix in Kyle Lauletta. He went 10/12 for 111 yards last week with a 9.2 YPA compared to Johnson’s 6.6 YPA. I expect this to continue and the Generals to keep defenses on their heels while getting both QBs some work. This will result in more points for the Generals while the Gamblers should still pull off the win. Over 44.5.
