1/26 Game Notes

Boston vs Tampa Bay:

  • Boston has won the last 5 meetings after Tampa won the previous 5 including a playoff series.
  • I won’t personally be playing this game tonight but I expect Tampa to get the W here.
  • Not much to really note on this matchup. You have two of the three Atlantic division power houses facing off.
  • As we mentioned on mic last night, Tampa Bay is coming into their own  and have won 6 of their last 8. THe worry here for me, which has never been a worry in the past, is Andrei Vasilevskiy. Even though hes 21-13 on the year with a 2.54 GAA, it was a VERY good month of December keeping his numbers lower than they really are. He’s posting a 2.91 in the month of January giving up 3 or more goals in 5 of 8 starts and has already lost to Boston twice this season giving up 5 goals in their first meeting. If Vas shows up and plays his premier self tonight, Tampa should win. If not, Boston takes it. I don’t expect tonight to be high scoring. 3-1 / 3-2 type game. Maybe a 4th by Tampa in an EN situation.

Detroit vs Montreal:

  • Won’t be on this game tonight. Should be a very boring, slow, low scoring game. 5 goals max. If I’m wrong, well know early and be able to jump on the over live.
  • Neither offense here is good or big enough to really get through to the other team. Montreal is really banged up so I would lean Detroit to win, but neither team is good enough to think it should be an easy game. I’m expecting a lot of back and forth skating with very minimal opportunities.

Washington vs Pitt:

  • Those who have been with me in the past know this matchup is an auto over bet for me. Casey DeSmith is back in net tonight after the 5 goal game against Florida.
  • I won’t be maxing this play but we will be on it just because of the history alone. Last game ended 4-1 with a surprise lack of offense from Washington. With them being home and DeSmith in net, I expect more.
  • I also expect Pitt to carry some offensive momentum into this game. Should be a 3-3 type game at some point or at least both teams putting up 3.

New Jersey vs Nashville:

  • Nashville has won the last 7 matchups between these two with a road win in OT earlier in DEcember.
  • Nashville has been a team I have been struggling to get right. I lean New Jersey tonight but not enough to play it. I expect goals so the over may be an option for anyone looking for additional plays, but being an out of conference matchup with Vanecek and Saros slated to start, I prefer to just stay off.

Buffalo vs Winnipeg:

  • Feels like Buffalo plays every night and plays in very favorable matchups for goals.
  • Eric Comrie is starting for Buffalo tonight so they’re giving him the revenge game narrative as he was Hellebuyck’s backup for the past few years in Winnipeg.
  • I mentioned in the matchup against Dallas why I was weary if he started that game, although now I wish he had, so this game gives me a little hesitation.
  • I don’t like the pricing on the lines tonight. I think this game lines up to be another 3-2 type game. Winnipeg’s team total is 3.5 and getting 3 is over -200. I’m not sold on Buffalo scoring 3 on Hellebuyck either. As much as I would love to smash Winnipeg and the over here, I don’t see enough value coming off a max bet loss last night.

Flyers vs Minnesota:

  • This is my favorite game to target tonight. Even with Hart in net, I like Minnesota at home. There’s two scenarios here I like so we can play this one or two ways:
  • I have Minnesota for 4 goals tonight. Regardless of Philly, Minnesota should have 3 in the third regardless and I fully expect a 4th goal. The hesitation is on Philly’s side. This is a game where they could put up 1, or 3. I don’t usually like betting against Marc-Andre Fleury, but the line is low enough on 5.5 that I think it is worth a play and almost a semi hedge. If Minnesota only scores 3 tonight that should be indicative of Philly having 2-3 of their own.
