A reverse bet is an “exotic” bet in which you are able to put two or more “IF” bets together.
A Reverse Bet is two IF BETS back to back. What does this mean?
- It means that I am betting two teams back to back twice. For example argument, I will use the Islanders and Rangers with different lines.
- Let’s pretend the Islanders are -120 on the night and the Rangers are -150. The way that the Reverse Bet work is as follows:
- I am betting on both teams to win to successfully win this bet. So, the reverse bet breaks down into two if bets.
- IF The Islanders WIN,
- THEN the Rangers WIN,
- IF the Rangers WIN,
- THEN the Islanders WIN then my bet is complete and I win the full amount.
To make it easier we will practice on a $100 bet. So if the Islanders are -120, and the Rangers are -150 the bet will look like this:
- If Islanders $120 to win $100
- Then Rangers $150 to win $100
- If Rangers $150 to win $100
- Then Islanders $120 to win $100…
- Now when placing the bet, you would be risking $270 to win $400… $150 on the Rangers, and $120 on the Islanders equals my $270.. If both teams win then I win the $100 bet 4 times.
Now, what happens if I lose one of the plays?
- If the Rangers lose, this is what would happen:
- If Islanders: Win $100
- Then Rangers: LOSE $150
- If Rangers: LOSE $150
- Then Islanders – NO BET… Since this is essentially two IF bets, since the Rangers did not win, the second IF bet ends on the loss.
- SO.. We WIN $100 on the Islanders, lose $150 on the rangers, and lose $150 again on the second rangers bet….
- +$100
- -$150
- -$150
- -$200… We lose $150 on the Rangers bet, and then the extra $50 comes from the VIG on the Rangers being -150 on the night.
- If the Islanders lose, this is what would happen:
- If Rangers: WIN $100
- Then Islanders – LOSE $120
- If Islanders: LOSE $120
- Then Rangers: NO BET
- … Since this is essentially two IF bets, since the Islanders did not win, the second IF bet ends on the loss.
- SO.. We WIN $100 on the Rangers, lose $120 on the Islanders, and lose $120 again on the second Islanders bet….
- +$100
- -$120
- -$120=
- -$140… We lose $120 on the Islanders bet, and then the extra $20 comes from the VIG on the Islanders being -120 on the night.
Now, what happens if I lose BOTH of the plays?
- If Rangers: Lose $150
- Then Islanders – LOSE $120… Then you lose the full $270 you risked and your bet is over.
What is the difference between WIN REVERSE AND ACTION REVERSE?
- Action reverse means that if for any reason your game is CANCELED, SHORTENED, or PUSHES, your bet gets skipped and you now have TWO STRAIGHT BETS?
- This has more to do with even number Over Unders, and Baseball games with weather..
- So if for any reason the Islanders game was canceled tonight here’s what the difference would look like:
ACTION REVERSE: RISK $300 to win $400
WIN REVERSE: RISK $270 to win $400
Why?
Because of this:
Action Reverse with a push or cancelation:
- If Rangers: RISK $150 to WIN $100
- Then Islanders – game canceled
- If Islanders: game canceled
- Then Rangers: RISK $150 to WIN $100….
- So on an action reverse, your bet is SKIPPING the islander game and you now have the Rangers risking $150 to win $100 TWICE….
Win reverse would look like:
-
- If Rangers: WIN $100
- Then Islanders – game canceled
- If Islanders: no bet
- Then Rangers: no bet…

which book do you use for the reverse bet?
Local would be most likely to have them or any books that have “if bets”
